Godin Session Custom with Fishman TriplePlay

I recently found a good deal on reverb.com for this 2013 Godin Session Custom with the Fishman TriplePlay MIDI pickup system. This guitar is unique because the MIDI pickup allows me to play VST instrument sounds like those you might hear in orchestras, such as violins, cellos, upright bass, etc., plus synthesizers and many more. It’s a fantastic guitar with a beautiful sound of its own. I particularly love positions 3 and 4 on the 5-way switch, where both pickups are engaged; position 3 gives a mellow, Telecaster-like chime, while position 4 adds a Gretsch-like flavor. Whenever I use this guitar, I’ll tag it here.

    About This Ringtone

    I recently upgraded the stock bridge on my 2013 Godin Session guitar to a new VT1 VegaTrem bridge, and the difference was absolutely inspiring. Now, don’t get me wrong, the stock bridge on the Godin is great, but I was curious after hearing all the excellent reviews in the guitar community about the VegaTrem. And let me tell you, this VegaTrem has a feel that’s hard to describe—it’s absolutely amazing and I’m now wanting one on all my guitars. It’s that good!

    This VegaTrem VT1 upgrade inspired me to create a ringtone that captures the essence of slide guitar, but with a twist: I used the vibrato/whammy bar for that smooth, half-step slide effect into the chords, which is usually done with a slide. Since recording this ringtone, I’ve been experimenting with combining an actual glass slide with the VegaTrem. It allows me to achieve an incredibly smooth sound by manipulating the VT1 bridge with the whammy bar arm, eliminating that slide/string friction noise. I’m working on perfecting this technique for future ringtones.

    Recording this track was a blast. I plugged my Godin into an IK Multimedia AXE I/O interface, dialed in the Rocker Grit tone from Guitar Rig Pro 7 by Native Instruments, and recorded everything in Logic Pro 11. To add to the swampy feel, I layered in some drums and a stand-up bass, courtesy of Band-in-a-Box by PG Music.
